With the book “Jardins ouvriers, jardins de demain, promenade dessinée”, we take a walk through the allotments of the twentieth century, thanks to precious and touching archive photos, in dialogue with contemporary drawings full of vitality and freshness by the artist Raphaèle Bernard-Bacot.
From the social garden of yesterday to the ecological garden of today, from the hoe to the grelin, the experience initiated by enlightened men and women such as Abbé Lemire, Dr Lancry and Félicie Hervieu, while set in its time, remains a great source of inspiration for gardeners of the 21st century.
As we stroll through the garden, enlivened by the artist’s on-the-spot sketches and her enlightening, light-hearted commentary, we rediscover forgotten vegetables, sunny smiles, the pleasure of working the land, the need to keep the soil alive, the conviviality under the arbour: wise gestures, timeless practices and invigorating values.
