Summer 2026
Slimane had started gardening when Michel, who was getting tired, asked him for a hand. He ended up giving him his plot of land. Slimane grows Algerian chili peppers there, as well as carrots and tomatoes for his wife, who is from Brittany. He’d like to irrigate the way they do in Algeria. Over there, water flows through small canals. It’s called the “water rotation.” Everyone takes care of irrigating their own plot, sticking to their allotted number of hours. But here, everything is different; people are more individualistic, and everyone uses water from their own rainwater collector. As for city water—from the faucet at the end of the driveway—there are no restrictions during the day yet, except during heat waves.
